CEREC is a type of 3D printer that’s designed specifically for creating dental restorations such as crowns, inlays, and onlays. A CEREC machine simplifies the process of taking dental impressions and, in many cases, allows our highly trained dentists make custom restorations in our office instead of sending your impressions off to a lab.
In the past, patients would need to be fitted with temporary restorations while waiting for the finished product to be completed. These were much less sturdy than regular dental restorations and often looked out of place in a patient’s mouth. Today, you can have your custom restoration created and fitted in just one day.
Our CEREC dentists begin by taking a scan of your mouth. This gives us a much more accurate view of the big picture than the putty impressions of years past. After that, we use a technology similar to that of a 3D printer to create your new implant, same-day crown, or bridge right here in our office. Finally, our dentists will begin the process of securing your dental restoration in your mouth, where, with proper care, it should last for years to come.
