Dental Sealant Dentist Wyoming MI

Children are the most obvious candidates for dental sealants. This is because children are more likely to neglect brushing back teeth where it’s hard to reach. Children are also more likely to eat more sugary foods that cause plaque and tartar buildup. Yet, our dentists also offer dental sealants for adults who have a higher risk of cavities.

What to Expect

The dental sealants procedure is fast, non-invasive, and painless. First, we’ll apply an acidic gel to the chewing surface of your molars. This will roughen the enamel so the sealant bonds well to your teeth. We’ll then let the gel sit on your teeth for a few seconds before rinsing it off.

Once your teeth are dry, we’ll paint on the sealant. The tooth sealant goes over the grooves and divots on the chewing surface. One of our Wyoming, MI dentists will then use a blue light to harden the sealant to your teeth. With proper care, you can expect your dental sealants to last several years.

Aftercare Instructions

Dental sealants are not a substitute for practicing good oral hygiene. After the dental sealants procedure, you’ll need to continue brushing and flossing daily. That way, you’ll be able to remove the plaque on your teeth and gums.

If we still find a lot of plaque during your next appointment, we may recommend using a fluoride mouth rinse. Fluoride is a natural ingredient that helps strengthen your tooth enamel against cavities. During your next appointment, we’ll also check the condition of your dental sealants. We can always reapply your dental sealants as needed.
